THE NEWS FROM WHITECHAPEL was written by authors Alexander Chisholm, Christopher-Michael DiGrazia and Dave Yost. It is a collection of articles that were published in The Daily Telegraph Newspaper in 1888 when Jack The Ripper brought terror to the streets of Whitechapel. In the 1841 - 1901 Census Records we see that Martha Tabram, Mary Ann Nicolls, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly were daughters, sisters, wives and even mothers years before they became know as victims. Let us now turn to the census records to find them alive and living with family ......

MARY JANE KELLY aka Marie Jeanette -
murdered 8th November 1888

We do not have much information to go on that allows us to find Mary Jane Kelly in the census returns. She said she was born in Ireland, lived in Wales and migrated to the Whitechapel district. She was aged 25 at the time of her death. We can, however, locate Joseph Barnett who lived with her. It is interesting to read the Case Book for Jack The Ripper as an apron connected with the slayings was found in Goulston Road because we find Joseph Barnett's brother, Dennis Barnett living in Glouston's Buildings, Bermondsey in 1881 with his wife and family. It is said that although the Barnett boys were born in England that their parents were born in Ireland which appears to be confirmed as Dennis has an Aunt living with him, aged 75, who was born in Ireland. LDS records lists the birth of a Joseph Barnett on the 3rd June 1857 and Christened on the 5th July 1857 in St Mary's Church, Whitechapel by parents Edward & Elizabeth Barnett.  Son Dennis is the only child born in Kent and the other four were born in Whitechapel. Mary Jane Kelly said that her father was John, that she had six brothers, one being Henry aka Johno and a sister.

13 Millers Court - Dorset Street - The home of Mary Jane Kelly

We now leave behind the 'Ladies of the Night' who lived in the rundown, crime infested district of Whitechapel - the home of the poor. We venture from Rags to Riches into the life of  Jennie Churchill. The contrasts of her extravagent lifestyle to that of Martha Tabram, Annie Chapman, Mary Ann Nichols, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly's is blatantly obvious.....
